Quest for CBS (Stout)

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

I hit my local Whole Foods Beer Market this afternoon to get a taste of Founders’s Canadian Breakfast Stout.

Loitered with a regular Breakfast Stout and met some local fellow craft beer nuts, stood in line with a Founders Imperial Stout, then read two chapters of Glen Cook’s classic The Black Company while sipping–a read as dark as the stout.

CBS was full and rich and aromatic and bourbon-y like KBS. Hard to compare it in my mind to the last draught KBS I had, last spring, but it had a mouth-feel that was slightly sticky or sugary, so maybe that was the maple syrup traces coming through.

At ConFusion This Weekend!

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

This weekend I’m at ConFusion in Detroit again, with my Odyssey pals Michael J. DeLuca, Jason Ridler, and Justin Howe.

We’re all on a handful of panels, and otherwise certain to be found on that raised dais area in the middle of the hotel lobby, likely in great cheer from libations smuggled in under the table.  Feel free to say hello!

At World Fantasy This Weekend

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

I’m at World Fantasy this weekend, in my locale of Washington DC.

And Thursday of the con is International Stout Day!  (For reals!)  Because I’m local, I can drive to the con and therefore bring beer. And because I’m me, I currently have 24 different stouts in my cellars.

So come to World Fantasy, to hear the interesting panel on medieval technology in fantasy that I’m on with Elaine Isaak aka E.C. Abrose. And celebrate International Stout Day! Cheers!

Boskone Postlude

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I had a great time at Boskone last weekend! Many people spoke to me about Beneath Ceaseless Skies, which was great–it’s more and more people at each con I go to. A good small crowd attended the BCS reading, and several nice-sized audiences attended the two panels about online topics that I was on.

Special thanks to a few folks: JoAnn and Boskone for inviting me, Maggie and KJ and Mike for reading, Neil Clarke and James Patrick Kelly for great interaction on two different panels, Teresa Nielsen Hayden for remembering me :) , Ian and NewGuyDave for a cool chat, Anne for her great brewpub recommendation, the good folks at Harpoon Brewery and Cambridge Brewing Co. for their fine skill, and my compatriot Mike for bringing a church key!
